In the White House I learned first hand how crappy the digital infrastructure of the federal government is and how procurement plays a big role in that problem. I was tasked with building a CRM and reporting tool for the White House Office of Legislative Affairs and was told it would be a year until we could get bids in for a program. 

Instead, we decided to hack together a system on Microsoft Access so we could get off the ground and running.
